While it was originally thought that the new DJ Drama/Lil Wayne mixtape Dedication 4 would drop today, it has been officially announced that the mixtape would be delayed yet again. The new release date is set for Monday September 3 at 12 p.m. EST.
Although Weezy’s popularity will likely never waver, some are calling this a make-or-break mixtape for the kid from the bottom of the map. His core audience has become increasingly disappointed with his recent work (myself included). Despite the commercial success of his last two studio albums, I Am Not A Human Being and Tha Carter IV, both were criticized by pundits and lacked any real impact in the streets. His Sorry 4 the Wait mixtape from last summer also garnered a collective yawn from the much of the hip-hop community. More recently, Wayne has been coming just as wack with “My Homies Still”, the lead single off of I Am Not A Human Being II and his unimpressive verse on the “Work Hard, Play Hard Remix“, which came out late last week.
Fans are hoping Weezy can regain his mixtape form of the mid 2000s, as he has once again linked up with “Dram Cruise”, the architect of the extremely well received Dedication mixtape series.
In the meantime, HHSR is gonna kick back and enjoy one of our favorite songs from mixtape Weezy’s Squad Up days.
